[Hallicrafters] S53A BFO problems

I have just recently completed recapping an S53 and have found that I 
still have problems with the BFO.  While the receiver worked prior to 
recapping, it's BFO did not.  Everything else would appear to be fine; 
great sensitivity and audio and all voltages reasonably close to Sams 
chart.  There is no audible beat with the BFO on and no discernable 
difference in audio with the switch in either position.

Any pointers would be much appreciated.
