[Hallicrafters] SX 42 restoration assistance

I'm in the middle (wishful thinking) of my SX42 restoration and would
appreciate some help with a couple of things,

I have now recapped all (or maybe not) the black beauties. The previous
restorer did a pretty poor job on the caps and I suspect never got the
radio to work (so far one really cold joint (cap wire slid in and out of
a terminal strip lug), a hidden broken wire (more on that later) and a
mis-connected capacitor. So for the help;

1) I have an "Expanded Service Manual" that has two schematics in it
(one just marked Fig. 4, 89D210K) and another by JF Rider (actually 3
pages with each RF/switch section). I understand there are at least two
different schematics out there with one of the differentiators being the
use of the 6H6. However these two are slightly different (in the number
of .05 caps 15 vs 13 ) but both seem to have the same 6H6 pin-out (pin 8
to gnd but both 3 & 5 connected, does that mean used or not?).
In re-capping I counted the number of .01 (qty 12), .02 (qty 15), .05
(qty 15) caps from the parts list and bought that many. When finished
replacing all the black beauties I had 2 x .01s and 2 x .02s left over.
(none were missed around the band-switch unless they were never replaced
by the previous restorer). Given the .05s were correct I'm discounting
the JF Rider schematic but..

So, this raises the question, do I have the wrong schematic. If so is
there someone out there who could help with an updated one (with a parts
list and tube layout if possible). The JF Rider one has the 2 x 7H7s and
the 6SK7 in the reverse order to my set and the other tube layout I
have.

Or

Did the previous restorer screw up in replacing caps by missing the 4 I
have left over (which means a major search job).

2) I am missing the tube shields for the miniature tubes, anybody got
some for sale or know a possible source.

3) The hidden broken wire: Attached to the band-switch coil adjacent to
trimmer C35, my set has a red wire that runs outside the shield (near a
6H6) and may have attached to a nearby terminal strip (which among other
things has 2 x 1,200 ohm 2W resistors connected to it), although the
wire seems longer needed for that. I've tried to trace this wire on the
schematic but I can't verify the other components related to it (coil)
as some appear to be under the band-switch. Can anyone tell me where
this might connect ( I could send a JPG image if that would help).
I guess a wrong schematic (as per #1 above) could explain this dilemma
as well.

Other wise, so far only a few bad resistors identified (all the 56Ks &
4-5 others, none replaced yet) and 4 tubes. But haven't turned it on
yet, still much to do. I've got an idea on repainting the front panel
while protecting the existing lettering, which if successful I'll pass
on.

Sorry for the long winded email but I thought the details might help.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
