Ross,

There is quite a difference between being cautious and being distrustful.
Because of all the humans who choose to exploit the kindness and generosity of
those who care, nowadays it is prudent to be a little suspicious and to take the
time to check the authenticity of a request from a total stranger. The world has
changed Ross, you need to take off those rose colored glasses from decades gone
by. Whether we like it or not, and I am among the 'not' as you are, the unity
and mutual brotherhood that this country was founded upon is fast fading into
greed and exploitation. Every time you turn on the radio or TV, or pick up the
local newspaper, there is a story about someone being taken advantage of. In
nearly every case, the person was victimized because he/she did not check out
the person before they donated to whatever the cause was. The tragedy here is
that real needs and real people who need real help are being denied more and
more because of the growing number of scam and con artists in our midst. It is
great to help others, but wise to be sure we are truly helping and not being
used because of our willingness to help.

Like you, Ross, I do not like having to be skeptical of the other persons
motives, but then I am reminded of the female attorney I retained earlier this
year who legally ripped me off and did absolutely not one thing to earn a cent.
Then the new neighbors who tore down my antennas, admitted it to the police and
were let off scott free because 'they thought they owned the land the shed (my
shed!) and antennas were on' because it was not criminal. Being stupid is legal.
I was the innocent victim, had all the proof anyone could ask for and got
totally ripped off by the dishonest people, unethical attorney and justice
system. While this sounds sexist, it was a female cop, a female attorney and a
female who bought the property! So Ross, it is darn hard to give somebody the
shirt off your back while they are stealing the shoes off your feet!

Just one man's opinion, some of you are the most skeptical people I have
ever heard from. The evidence certainly points to an honest request. I still
have some hope in our fellow man (woman), and remain skeptical when it
appears as such. Please lighten up!

73, Ross K9COX
