Solid state diodes. These are wired across the rectifier tube sockets which
provide a "modification free" terminal strip in case you ever want to restore
the rig to original. Be sure to remove the affected tubes before firing the
rig up. Even with this done, the rig should be brought up slowly using a variac.

The main reason for this modification is that it removes some of the heat
buildup in the power transformer caused by the current draw of the rectifier
tubes. The HT-37 and several other Hallicrafters rigs are plagued by heat buildup
in the power transformer, resulting in a short down the line. In the case of
the HT-37, a lot of these shorts have been between the 5V and HV windings.

If you observe the other notes on the HT-37 you have seen here, you should
wind up with a really nice piece of vintage gear.

good luck and 73,

John, W4AWM
