[Hallicrafters] Advice sought on antenna cable type

Run a support rope over the tops of both trees first and secure the ends
down near the bottom of each trunk with an eye bolt. In the center of
this support rope, place a stainless steel marine pulley, sized for
about 3/16" rope. The pulley should be placed close to the center of the
support rope first. Through this pulley, place another rope down to the
ground and tie it off. You can then raise and lower the dipole at will.
Makes a real neat installation and, supports just about all the weight
of the antenna, coax, center insulator etc. You can obtain the stainless
pulley at a marine store or over the internet. Make sure you use stainless
or it will rust pretty quickly. I use this method on all my dipoles even
160 meters with very good results and with very little sag in the wire
due to weight.

Subject: [Hallicrafters] Advice sought on antenna cable type

Hi,
I am about ready to put up a 40m dipole antenna between tall trees
near my home. The antenna will be up about 65 ft. (tall trees) and I
am concerned with the coax weight from the antenna center to my house.
RG-8 seems heavy, RG-8x has been suggested and Radio Shack has RG-8m.
The leadin will be about 75 feet and I will be using my HT-37 (100
watts) on the antenna. I would appreciate experienced thoughts on the
subject. Thanks.
