While unpacking some of my archeological treasures I discovered that there
are apparently 3 different knobs used.
(1) wide spokes and small cutouts
(2) narrow spokes and large cutouts
(3) narrow spokes and no cutouts
First pix I pulled up on the web showed 1 #1 in main tuning, 1 #2 on
bandspread.
Radio in the shack has 2 #3's on it.
The one in the garage has 2 #2's on it
The knobs with narrow spokes have "Hallicrafters" name on the back edge,
others do not. Perhaps 1 is from the 28A? The war dictated using other
vendors?
Ref knob #3, I have seen one that the web between the spokes was not
complete and feathered to an edge as if the mold had not completely closed
on one side. Worn molds? The speculations could be endless. Nazi spies
planting bogus knobs in hopes the radios would not tune right? Well, thought
I would mention the possibility before one of you did.
