I found the picture of the Hallicrafters SR-500 console in the May 1962 CQ
on page 51. Shows HB9RS sitting at the console at ET3RS in Ethiopia during
the CQ World Wide SSB Contest in 1961. This was set up at Police HQ
(INTERPOL). I was one of the luck ones to QSO them.
The SR-500 is not to be confused with the later SR-500 transceiver. This
console consisted of a SX-100 receiver, HT-30 transmitter, and small
amplifier all in a console with key lock and small desk in front of the
receiver. This was shown in the Hallicrafters ads in the ARRL Handbook in
the late 1950's. Hallicrafters replaced this with another console
(SR-1000) in the early 60's. The 1000 was the HT32, HT-33, and Sx-101.
The only other picture of a SR-500 was in the used gear page of my 1959
Harrison catalog. (besides the Handbook). The only SR-1000 I know of was
supposed to be delivered to HV1CN at the Vatican in 1961 by Bill Halligan Sr
and Trav K9EBE. I recall the separates were sent instead. Plus a new
SX-115 replaced the SX-101.
