That's what's called mid-twentieth century indoor domestic camouflage.
It's what it took to hide the gear in plain sight -- in the living room
or den.
At first I thought it was the old standard, "contak paper", that thin
vinyl self stick stuff that used to get stuck on lots of poor things.
However, I think it's really another boon to modern civilization -- one
of those two part antiquing kits. Anybody remember those? Maybe they
still sell them. End result was never as attractive as advertised --
even on furniture where it belonged -- NOT.
OK, get out gloves and the paint stripper.
