[Hallicrafters] Hallicrafters SX-73/R-274 problem

I would greatly appreciate some feedback from the knowledgable Hallicrafters
SX-73/ R274 fraternity on the main tuning dial drive coupling. I have
included a jpeg of the coupling on my receiver. It appears to be spring
loaded in one direction which causes bad frequency errors in that direction.
Is this factory or some "quickie" modification?
