[Hallicrafters] desparately need a knob!

Van, I think you have a good idea.
Though I don't know how we start an organized knob exchange list, I'm
convinced there are hundreds if not thousands of knobs sitting in drawers
that will end up in the trash once we become SK. I know personally I have a
few Hallicrafters, National, Drake and Collins knobs squirelled away for no
particular purpose and most likely there are folks who could use them. I
know when I needed knobs for my SX-100, it was an exhaustive search that
could have been cut short with a list. I think I bought a couple of old
radios (suggested by Chuck Dachis) just to get the knobs!
I also suspect this extends beyond just knobs. At Dayton this weekend, the
level of parts, both old and new were at an all time low which sure made me
wonder about the longevity of being able to repair our treasured old radios.
I have run into various sites, such as AG Tannebaum who has tons of old
multisection electrolytics and wmperry at covad.net who has many old
connectors, Peter Dahl who will rewind almost any transformer, Mort Jones
who has Collins flocked speaker grills (wish there was a source for R-46B
ones) and on and on. These lists often share this information but unless you
are clever enough to do good searches, the info is not readily available.
Perhaps if we give this some thought we can pool our collections and develop
a comprehensive source listing?
