All:
I read something of interest recently on Electric Radio. It concerns us changing the paper caps out on 50Kc if Hallicrafters Radios (SX-100, 101, 111, etc) with the newer plastic ones we see in various places like Antique ES.
FYI, the old paper caps were described in the article as being more of an RLC combo rather than just a plain old cap and the engineers literally had to incorporated those characteristics into the receiver. The newer caps were far closer to an ideal C than the older stuff so say a .01uF cap in the old days would have some inductance and resistance inherent in it's design while the new mylar caps would be closer to the .01uF without any significant L or R. Apparently, changing out to the new caps can have a negative effect on those aforementioned rx's. Anyone care to comment on this? Thanks. Cal, N6KYR.
