[Hallicrafters] S40 series IF cans

Does anyone know if the if cans from the S40 or the S40A are interchangeable with the cans in the S40B?

I have an S40B that has one that is arcing internally inside the plastic base, which is apparently where the fixed cap has been built. The can in question is T3 Halli p/n 50C242.  

After digging through the manals for the S40 and the S40A it appears that the B model used different cans with fixed caps instead of trimmers that the earlier models had.

If these are not directly interchangeable does anyone know which JW Miller can is?
