Been reading about your problem with your HT-37. I used to have one several years ago. Not a bad rig but I had the opposite problem: I couldn't get it to work on 40!  Well, a little bit more digging and I found that the driver coil was broken! In addition, the connections on the driver waver needed rosoldering! After 50 years plus of existing, sometimes the solder has a galvanic action with the copper wire in the xmtr. The result is that the wire gets eaten away. In any event, I ended up I rechecked my wires and resoldered the connections. I also ended up stripping a Bic pen and used that for my 40 meter coil form. Rewound using the same  Well, it did work...on the lower end of the band (CW).  FWIW. Cal, N6KYR.
