One wonders why the phasing design of the HT-44 Transmitter actually 
happened. There must have been some strong feelings at high levels in design 
management that favored phasing SSB generation. In reality, the HT-44 was 
very stable -- at least the several I have owned -- and still own. Definitely 
it was better than a couple of HT-37's I had. I think this was a high water 
mark for the concept.

I also wonder if it was a lower in cost to produce -- at a time when the 
wider bandwidth did not make so much difference.
