I am not sure if Measurements was bought out by
Boonton (which was another manufacturer of test
equipment), but the Model 80 was a much used industry
signal generator from the 1940s into the early 1960s.
It uses a 955 "acorn" tube for the oscillator. You
really need to use an external 6 dB "pad" to match the
output of the generator to 50 ohms. There is an
indication on the calibrated attenuator that shows the
level with and without the pad being installed.
The military TS-497 (of which the TS-497B is the most
numerous example) is exactly the same generator, just
in a more rugged cabinet and built for the military.
When modulated, although it is supposedly AM, there is
about as much FM as AM!
Years ago I owned both the Measurements model 80 and
the lower frequency version as well. I still have a
TS-497B that I don't use much any more since I have
several service monitors. But, I don't want to get
rid of the old monster!
