Another alternative would be to use Brasso. Yes, it is used to polish brass but the fine grit that's used to polish the brass is great in taking small scratches out from polish. 

To clean grime, grit, and accumulated cigarette smoke, Power Cleaner (a purple degreaser) is great to use. I used that to clean off knobs off of an Eddystone and National radio and it works great! As of late, I am restoring an older 5 All American RCA radio. The yellow knobs are now white thanks to the same. FWIW. Cal, N6KYR.
