[Hallicrafters] SX-17

I was surfing the web and looking at pictures of the SX-17
(I have one), and I noticed in one of the pictures, the 
crystal phasing control and the pitch control seem to have
a clear plastic, red stripped reference pointer mounted just
behind the control knob for both controls.

I have never seen this on an SX-17.  It certainly is not on mine
or the other one I had 30 years ago.  I was wondering if someone
knows if these pointers are original.
