Today we were finally able to examine the IAC 40 and 80 meter double bazooka
antennas. Adverse weather had hampered our efforts along these lines previously.
One of the molded legs on each antenna was literally torn in half. These are
very well constructed antennas, and tearing a wire in half takes some effort!
Both mounting assemblies were ripped from the forty foot tower that supported
them. The feedline on the eighty meter antenna was ripped out of the SO-239. We
still have not located all the pieces of the antennas, as a Winter stormon
Wednesday buried them under eight inches of snow.
Suffice it to say, the antennas are not repairable and are scrap. I have ordered
replacement antennas. Weather permitting, and volunteers being available, I
'may' have the forty meter antenna operation in two to three weeks.
I will do what I can on Saturday with the GAP Titan vertical, but do not expect
much. It works, and that is all I can say about it that is positive. I just hope
that whoever did this does not decide to tear down the two verticals sixty-five
feet south of my house toward the woods and the forty foot tower where the
double bazooka antennas used to be. The police have been checking closely and
have their eyes on several possible suspects. Hard to prove - Impossible to
prevent.
If somebody else can help me out with NCS duties on Saturday, it would be most
appreciated! The ears on this GAP Titan are hearing impaired.
