Why would you even bother putting crystals for 29.0 and up in a
sideband/CW only rig? That frequency range is inhabited primarily by AM
and FM operations, and your SR-xxx won't operate either.
I'd like to suggest a better alternative; put in a crystal for 24.5-25.0
MHz and operate 12 meters. You get one more band you can work, and you
have not actually modified the rig. If you live where you can hear WWV
at 25 MHz you will get that as a bonus.
If you can stand to operate with a dial that is off frequency by some
arbitrary amount, plug in any crystal that will cover the 12-meter band,
somewhere on the dial. You might find such an animal at a flea market
somewhere. Just take a calculator and figure out the possible range for
the crystal by plugging in numbers that put the band at each end of the
dial. Then take that information with you to the next hamfest. I've
done it and I can testify that it works!
