[Hallicrafters] Chirping HT-40 Quiery

Why does my HT-40 make a chirping sound on CW? (Please don't tell him about the
bionic Crickets that accidentally escaped from the Hallicrafters lab during WW2
research projects and infiltrated different rigs in the years thereafter.) 	
	
He would like to know the cause of this problem and suggestions for eliminating
