[Hallicrafters] SX-62 is playing well.

Hi all.
Well, yesterday evening I finished up overhauling that SX-62 Run 2 for the
gentleman who lives about 35 miles or so down the road.
I'm really not sure why, but he took the dial calibration shaft (left side)
out of the radio so that the dial naturally slid to the left end of its
travel. So, when I aligned it, I tightened down the two screws that hold
the slide mechanism in place so that it would stay where I put it (center of
its travel). That way if he re-installs the shaft the set's calibration
will be in the middle of its range.
Any-hoo, the set seems to play very well. Good tone and what I would call
moderate sensitivity (remember I'm used to R-390As & SP-600's). With those
push pull 6V6's it has plenty of audio too.
Would I do another one? Probably, but only if it were mine. Hallicrafters
obviously had no intention of ever having to repair anything in the RF
section of this receiver, even with the access cover removed. (There is
STILL one ORIGINAL capacitor in the first stage of this set as I refused to
remove the bandswitch!) Of course, Hallicrafters wasn't the only one with
that attitude. I'd sooner take a beating than to have to remove the RF deck
of a Hammarlund SP-600 (yes, I've done it, and did a neat job too). Now,
R-390A's are another story. While afraid of them at first I no longer mind
pulling the RF deck, after you've done a few they're a piece of cake 8^)
