Hi Barry.
No, this one has it's balls intact and you can feel the click click as you
rotate the switch ;-) The switch just doesn't have any stops to keep it
from going around 360 degrees.
The 6AG5 tubes are 7 pin miniatures and are used as the first and second RF
amplifiers.

Nope, there should be detents. I had a similar experience with an
I-don't-remember-what-radio. As I recall, the SX-62 bandswitch is of the
same type. Stuck in the gunk (lucky for the gunk) in the bottom lip of
the chassis were two ball bearing balls -- like silver BB's. If you look
at the front end of the switch, you'll find what looks like a wrinkle
washer on steriods. There's a race in there where the two balls go, 180
degrees apart. Your's are probably missing. Look around in the case
just "in-case" by some stroke of luck the balls are there. They might
even be somewhere near the switch, stuck to it with the old grease. One
might still be in place but not enough to make a dent, uh detent.
If missing, best to cannibalize another rotary switch, though it might
take a few tries before you find the right diameter.
I put 'em back in and tightened up the switch a bit and it was OK.

As I recall the 6C4 is the only miniature tube in the rx -- used for the
xtal calibrator. That has no effect unless you're calibrating. If it's
weak enough, it won't put an harmonic across the full range of the rx.
Forgot what the 6AG5 is for. There are several manuals for the different
renditions on the various websites, including bama -- there was gradual
change in tube lineup over the years of production.
