Hi again folks,
Well, I almost had heart failure when I looked at my SX-42. I had taken
it to a hamfest a week ago, apparently some knob twister had been "taking it
for a spin." No, fortunately the skinny shaft for the bandspread clutch
wasn't broken, but the clutch is messed up somehow. I think it's
repairable, but will require getting it back on out of the cabinet & on the
bench.
Anyhow, with the bandspread dial at the "set here" position, the b.s.
capacitor is fully unmeshed. I was slightly wrong earlier, the stator is in
2 sections. The capacitance varies from zero to 2 different maximums,
depending on which way the rotor goes. Skip, I'll send you a digipic of it
showing the dial & the rotor.
If anyone is really interested in buying a nice, but not cheap, SX-42,
send me a note & I'll give you the specifics on it & a link to some pix.
