Hi Lorne, the S-38 CW Pitch knob is like those on a SX-99 except it doesn't
have the metal insert. Additionally the shaft hole is smaller than 1/4 inch
perhaps slightly over 1/8 inch, however how I handled that was to drill a
hole through a 1/4 inch dowel to act as a centering shim and another hole
through the dowel so the set screw could pass through to the shaft of the
pitch inductor gripping it tightly.

Getting the metal insert out of the SX-99 style knob is usually not too
hard. I have run it under hot water and then struck it flat face down on a
solid surface and it sometimes just falls out. Clean it up and you have
"the knob" but need to do the shim to make it work correctly and not wobble.

The cheapest way to get knobs is to look for a S-94 or S-95 with good knobs
which go for around $10 and you get one large one and two small knobs which
is what I have done twice now. Hard as it may be, you can simply throw away
the S-94 or maybe sell it knobless for $5. Its a cheap way to get knobs.

I really like my S-38 so I hope you will as well.

Hallicrafters. I'm hooked :-) It's complete except that the "C W Pitch"
knob is missing. They look the same as those on my SX-99. I saw some posts
awhile back where someone has knobs for Halli radios for sale. Any help in
locating one would be appreciated.

missing but other than that, it has the back, only minor scratches, no rust
and could be a LOT more dirty.
