Read Stan Watkin's little S38 restoration web article at:

http://www.concentric.net/~Stwradio/hals38.htm

If you don't feel gung-ho enough to mold your own knobs the way he
outlines, e-mail the folks at http://antiqueradioknobs.com/ who may
already have molds set up for the S38 series. (They can't be bothered
to put their products list on their web site.)

If you decide to repaint your case, most people mask the labelling and
lines. However, S38 labelling decal sets (as well as label and dial decal
sets for many antique radios) are available from Rock-Sea Enterprises:

Since the S38 is just a glorified AA5 radio with AA5 safety issues, you'll
without a doubt recap and especially "re-grommet" the radio the way
Stan Watkin's little article describes. But moreover, since you're going
to be replacing the fried power cord anyway, you may wish (for safety)
not only to replace the cord with a polarized one, but also to spend a
few minutes to repair the standard AA5 safety design flaw, whereby the
power switch is always wired into the ground side of the circuit rather
than the "hot" side (which flaw potentially allows the AA5 to fry you
equally easily whether the power switch is in the on or off position).
Simple instructions for rewiring the power switch to the "hot" side of the
AA5 supply where it belongs were written up by Doug Moore and may
be found at:

in locating one would be appreciated.
