Well i did not get but 30 mins to work on the girl today. just time too
unbox the new R.F. generator. from Tenna that the company bought. hi hi..
nice unit but leaves a LOT to be desired in the freq breakdown dept. needed
14.000mcs generator band D 10 to 35 MHz. ugh. band read 13 line ,line ,
line 15 jezzzz. so line 2 must be 14,000mcs. set it there started out with
the 20 osc coil slug. about half way out got a weak tone. peaked C-35 great
i have a ssb station off to the side. turned of generator peaked the
trimmer cap for max sig. peaked the ant tuning C-2 WOW it works on 20 but
out of calibration bad. copied a DX net on 20 mts. tomorrow ill take the
freq counter to work and fine 14,000mcs and do it right. jumped to WWV
dialed in 10mcs on the generator played with the wwv band osc coil that
band started working.. same with 28 mcs. now all bands are working again.
now to check a few resistors and replace 4 more caps and i can start the
alignment . take the broken dial glass out and put in the new one. hummm i
might just have a piece of glass cut and silk screen a few dial glass's
while i have a good one setting in a box.. i feel much better about the old
gal now that she is back working . just hate to think that she was about to
become a parts unit. at least another Hallicrafters has been saved from
that fate.
