Greetings everyone. I've finally completed the recapping of my SX-28A. It was indeed, a chore, but I had a lot of fun doing it. I am now in the process of placing all of the new electrolytics inside of the old cans. One down and one to go. I have never done this before, but looked to the advice of others who had. I neatly severed the bottom of the can (the wider part) from the main body using a fresh hacksaw blade, gently holding the blade in my hand and taking very short and careful strokes with it to insure a "true" amputation. Once the bottom was removed I was able to pull out the tube like roll of paper and foil. After this I cleaned out the inside of the can and gave it a nice cleaning with fine sandpaper and then washed it in alcohol to clean off any residue. I drilled a small hole beside each of the lugs on the bottom of the capacitor to feed the new lines. I used heatshrink on the leads, keeping the leads as short as possible. When I achieved the correct positioning of the two caps on the bottom, I used a small amount of glue from my hot glue gun to bundle the two together. I then slipped over the main body onto the new caps to check for a proper fit. I then mixed up the right amount of 2 part epoxy and placed a liberal coating over the last inch of the new caps and bottom part. I then placed them together for a good fit and used my finger to wipe around the joint, removing any excess expoxy. Once this was done I let it sit for the required time to set and dry. I must admit, it looks great. In fact you would need a magnifying glass to notice the seem. I realized that when I replaced all of the old paper caps that I was robbing the chassis of originality, but it had to be done to render the rig "useable". I could not do the same with the electrolytics. I did not think it was appropriate to look into a cavity on the chassis, where three electolytic cans were once located and see five new electolytics taking their place. On another note, I picked up a S-27 today that is in need of a cabinet, tuning knob, and an S-meter housing (this one has multiple stress cracks). Please email me if you have any of these parts. Could anyone out there email me a rear view of the S-27 chassis. Thank you in advance. Best regards, Mike Smout
