Well in my last email i had the girl brought back from the dead. she did
not work in LSB nor did the 20m and wwv bands work.
dealing with the LSB issue first i checked the tubes and switch contacts
all were good put in a spare 1600kcs xtrl still nothing. well i had two
thoughts either someone had been tweeking the can's or the resistors in the
lsb half of the grid ckt had gone south. USB worked fine. boy i sure did
not what to have to pull that subchassie out. ok lets try the EZ step
first. tweek the 1600kcs xtrl ocs coil. one turn right Nothing hummm back
to point A. one turn left BAM ! the LSB xtrl took off like a race horse.
peaked the coil and now i had LSB on 80 and 40 .
Ok wonder if the guy played with the 20 mt coils ? looking i found that
C59 one of the weird round cap's had been resoldered. hummm he had worked
on this problem. ok lets start with L16 the 20 m osc coil 2.5 turns left
WAM a signal wait a sec that is a 40 m short wave broadcast station.. Oh
Well it is time too head home. at least it works on 20 mt somewhat.
looks like someone had tried to retune the 20 m section for 40 mts. monday
when i head back to work ill take my r.f. gen with me and align the bands..
hope i can pull the osc back up to 20 mts. worry about C59 nasty solder
job might pay to find another. hope the wwv band is the same problem.
just out of alignment. boy the old girl sure sounds good on 80 and 40 mts.
15 and 10 are down somewhat but a good peaking should take care of that.
more later.
guess ill mate her up with one of the spare ht-37's i have out in the shop
think it will make someone a nice BA station later this summer.
