[Hallicrafters] SX-111 It lives

well i had this old sx 111 setting in the shop guy i got it from said yep 
it worked last time i tried it.
hummm arrived with glass broken out by ups but i had a spare took out of 
case cleaned out glass shards. humm lots of nice black shining caps 3 split 
open . well i guess it could work with them like that. had seen that 
before. powered it up lights up. nice and dirty inside.. nothing just lights.
do voltage checks fil volts there nothing else.. well guess ill part  it 
out  transformer gone. resistance checks nope windings all good. 
hummm  that  5y3gt looks a little dark around the bottom.. drag out tube 
checker  BAD hummmm now how in the world did it work the last time he 
turned it on.????
replaced  5y3  turned to lsb nothing... oh well cleaned all switches.. 
turned to usb SOUNDS...
replaced all the black caps.. now another old hallicarfters has been saved 
from the parts yards.
no lsb  either the  1600 kc xtral is bad or one of the resisters in that 
half of the tube is open. jezzz that is going to be a job getting that sub 
unit out . no 20 meters  either other bands work  wwv i am not sure of yet 
hear some am sw stations there but can not find wwv. the  20m and wwv bands 
use the same coils . in bad need of alignment. guess the guy knew it did 
not work on lsb had the  lsb/usb coil turned so he could copy lsb in the 
uppersideband position..
lots of work to go but at least it lives.. again.
6 inches of snow in south central KY.. and  10F this morning.
anyone have a 1600kc xtral  ? would be nice if the resistors were ok and 
just the xtral bad
