Any SX-73 experts out there?

I've got a mil version (R-274) which has two problems -- dead on the 3
high (double conversion) bands and the meter is bad, which I hear tell is
typical.

Reception is strong on the lower 3 (single conversion) bands and the IF
switchover relay (K1) is working and apparently making contact when the
turret moves to bands 4 and higher.  However there is practically no
audio or noise.  The manual shows a procedure to align the 6.455 MHz
oscillator, checking for -1vdc at a test point -- haven't done that yet. 
Is there a quick 'n dirty way to test the 6.455 xtal?  Any tips from
someone who's been there done that or come close?

The meter is of the round bakelite style, 0-50 microamps according to the
parts list.  Anybody have a working replacement or a similar style 0-50
microamp unit from which I could transfer the movement, or just swap
scales?
