Hi Brad, You can obtain the exact match paint from Mike Shelton at
NCtotalelectronics.com. I believe the correct number is #300. His paint has
a nice wide spray pattern or you can obtain it in pints and quarts. I have
painted a SX-99 and a HT-30 with this paint and if you do the prep correctly
it will come out looking like new. Remember any flaw that you can see of
feel will show under the new paint.
On the SX-99 as long as the silver insert is good there is no need to do
anything but mask the edges with tape meant for models from a hobby shop. It
provides a perfectly clean line when removed. You should disassemble the
radio completely and spray the top, back and front panel separately.
I have had the best luck with painting where it is warm using several very
light coats spaced about 15 minutes apart. Mike can give you specific
instructions. Mike is pretty busy so it sometimes takes him a week or so to
fill an order but it ultimately gets there.
Good luck, it's worth the effort.

Subject: [Hallicrafters] SX-99
Hello all,
I am in the process of restoring an SX-99. I went to the paint store today
and had no luck. I am trying to find a spray paint that will match the
cabinet as I want to repaint it. Does anyone have a source of spray paint
which will match the Hallicrafter cabinet color? Thanks
Brad
