GM Duane W8DBF!
Two points to ponder:
1/ Most old rigs take time to warm up and settle down. Case in pint - I'm an avid Siltronix affectionado and I've found over the years, should you want to 'use' the rig - turn it on and leave it alone all night. Also, they had a mod where you modified the unit with a 'stand by' switch. This helped a lot and several of my rig have this 'little' helper.
2/ For the longest time - I thought it was just me drifting around for an hour or so in the AM. After a while, both the rig and I settled down. After all, if you were an old rig - wouldn't you at least want a couple of cups and a donut before having to go charging off to work out maximum output?
