[Hallicrafters] Swap SX-42 or donate parts to the list members

   I have an SX-42 that has a bit of a story behind it. I would like to 
donate parts or part it out or/inable to get a swap for the complete radio  .
 First the bad news:
 the radio is missing the cabinet and the tubes and RF cover.
 has 2 knobs missing
 has no band spread bezel
 has a smashed meter/CW IF can
 has crushed filter cap
 meter case is cracked and frozen
 crushed bent tranny cover
 tranny loose and floats about
 could be more but that is the jist folks

 
 This is a radio that was sold on ebay and then destroyed by UPS through 
total disregard and incompetence. The radio has come back to me the original 
owner for disposal. The purchaser did get the insurance for it but not enough 
to compensate for the lost time and his headache. BEWARE OF UPS!!!  I offered 
the radio back to him for shipping but he has opted to leave the disposal up 
to me and is glad to be rid of the nightmare. I have not received any monies 
or refunds from UPS or the purchaser and my offer here is to compensate for 
my time, phone calls, headaches and diligence to resolve the matter with UPS 
for him.

The good news !!

 This radio "was" a cream puff. I had almost finished a restoration on it. 
Chassis was cleaned to bright, panel knobs were pristine and the radio was 
half electronically restored, The new owner finished the restoration with the 
addition of a recap/addition of a nice solid state product detector and more. 
The radio when it was shipped to him was dropped hard and caused the RF cover 
to come loose and smash the screw off of the meter/CW osc I.F. can so 
adjustment was not possible. The new owner affected repair with the addition 
of the PD. All we were going to do was to get UPS to pay for the damage for 
the repair he did and to get enough to get a junker for some parts to replace 
the can. The rest is a nightmare story not worthy of the bandwidth on this 
thread.
 I'm sure with some new parts and a little work this radio will be an 
outstanding SX-42. With the fact that it has a recapped/resistors and working 
chassis is enough to make it a candidate for saving. I would hate to part it 
out but if no one wants the whole thing I will do so. The other owner had it 
working perfectly and as stated it / chassis is done / restored and will work 
like new once the radio is returned to its former glory. If you have a junker 
about with all the missing parts just mentioned you could take this chassis 
and have a DX screamer as far as an old BA goes!

 I will take a swap of a nice R-48, or R-46 speaker for the whole thing. I 
will pay shipping for the speaker and the person who wants the 42 pays 
shipping for that. If I don't get an offer for this swap I will donate the 
radio/parts to needy persons on the list for shipping costs of the parts. It 
would however be a shame to waste this radio....Thanks to all…Paul
