[Hallicrafters] Re ALC For HT-37?

An interesting question arose during the Saturday HCI 40 meter Net. N8ITF has a
HT-37 with an ALC control on the front panel. Most do not have this, at least
not that I have ever heard of. Is this a mod some previous owner added or a
feature that Hallicrafters added later on during production runs?	
	
Because the meter does not show any ALC markings, I am guessing this is a user
mod. Your thoughts, gentlemen?
