To JIm Mandelik and all intrested.
I agree with most of what you say about the so called tube sound.
But tube amps do sound different. I mean the old 1960's window
shakers shure do. I was in the hi fi business for many years and
all the new name brand hi-fi equiptment sound really good but it is
maybe too clean, i don't know?? I am listing to an old bogen right now
and it really is more mellow, not much high end. Tube power amps will
take alot more punishment than transistors. All power tubes have a
little more head room and can be operated beyond normal levels without
distorting. Anybody with a ham tube linear has done it. The sound is
more pleasing to some and just different. But i agree just adding a
tube is not going to cut it. The whole amplifier chain has to be tube,
to get that sound , sorry. Or with computer smmpling it can be had.
And tube keep you warm on these cold winter nites.
enough from this old fart.
