I would like some opinions from net members regarding the pros & cons of 
so-called active antennas when used with a receiver. My study of the 
available literature indicates that they are  broadband RF amplifiers of 
varying complexity connected to an 18" vertical whip antenna. Performance is 
supposed to be equivalent to a 60 to 80 ft. long wire or inverted-L and very 
useful when space is limited or you don't want to go to the trouble of 
erecting a big outdoor antenna.

Thanks for any thoughts - I'm sure this will generate many of them.
