I asked the same question a few years ago. The replies I got are at:

Recently, I had a 75-pound National RBL-6 that reeked of smoke. I tied it up in a Hefty bag, threw about 4 sheets of BOUNCE fabric softener in, and left it out on the porch, subject to the extreme temperatures of the Florida summer. Three weeks later--voila, smoke smell gone.
Good luck.

Subject: [Hallicrafters] old rigs and smoke
Is there a reasonable way to rid vintage rigs of the smell of cigarette smoke? Thanks for any help. 73/NZ7C
