so far it appears that the consensus is the front panel is a homebrew
attempt; closer examination shows paint missing from the edges, letter-
ing is "off" in some areas, etc.

thus, this unit will more than likely become an "organ donor" so that
"others might live"; i will let the list know when this becomes reality.

the cabinet appears to be an SX-101 series so far, awaiting more input.
