Happy Holidays from Phoenix!
Ron, WA0KDS is absolutely correct! I live in Phoenix a few miles from
Ron and the WX outside is very weird and Midwestern? looking. People who
visit the desert often say "I would miss the change in the seasons if I
lived here". Well, we do have the change in the seasons here in the
desert. When the needles fall off of the cactus, than we know that
winter has arrived.....LOL! It also means that it is the time of year we
can do antenna work. Radio towers and aluminum tubing for antennas gets
pretty hard to handle when the outside temperature is 110 degrees.
Their are two seasons here in the Sonora desert - winter and summer (hot
and hotter). Seriously, the desert does get pretty cold at night this
time of the year - 20's and 30's warming up into the 50's and 60's in
the daytime. One thing you can generally count t on is that it will be
sunny! Boatanchors do a nice job of warming the shack at night and in
the morning here also.
Contrary to what most people think, only a third of Arizona is desert.
The other two thirds is high elevation with pine forests and often gets
more snow than many parts of the midwest and northeast.
73 and Happy Holidays,
