[Hallicrafters] Back again I think...

I changed my base e-mail address and didn't think I had any of the
subscriptions on it, but unfortunately I missed a couple. One being the
Hallicrafters list.
I wondered why I wasn't seeing any activity on the list. Then I discovered
the last mail I had received was back on the 20th when I changed addresses.
The old rdhalste at tm.net is no more. Too much spam so I've gone to using
addresses that match all the lists and services and use disposable ones on
the newsgroups.
My apologies if any one got a bounce off the old address.
BTW, I have the H T33B about ready to power up as well as the HT32. The
SX101 is working but is still a bit weak on sensitivity, but sounds great.
Both 101As still need a thorough recapping.
To top off the good news, the bad news is Midland County has decided to
build a *large* jail almost across the road from me. Just one house and
then Olson road between me and where they want to put the jail. This honker
is no what you'd think of as a jail either. The building will be 600 feet
long, 200 feet deep and I'm not sure how many stories high.
I can guarantee lots of getting into their control wiring unless they take
the precautions of bypassing and shielding ahead of time which I can almost
guarantee they won't . At least we presented them with a letter warning of
the problems ahead of time.
I managed to get interviewed by ABC, CBS, and FOX with lengthy interviews on
RFI, causes, cures, how to determine who is at fault and the FCC being the
one who regulates it and not the locals. Channels 5 and 12 opened their
news segments with shots of the tower. 66 did a bit on it as well.
Maybe 20 to 30 minutes of tape for the formal interviews and I'd guess half
or more for wandering around the yard talking about the issues. All that
turned into about a total of 3 minutes air time between the three networks.
One of the commissioners called the head of our committee to assure her that
it's going to look like a modern office building with a big berm... A work
of art that will probably raise the values of our homes. <:-)) I can
assure them that a 600 X 200 foot modern office building with bright lights
in a rural, wooded subdivision is going to stand out like a pair of nudists
at a Southern Baptist picnic and be just about as welcome.
Current plans would put that building about 200 yards due south of me which
would probably cut off any UHF and VHF to points south including the NWS.
At least it is bringing the neighborhood together and I'm getting to know
lots of people I never met before.
