Was this shipment by UPS? I stopped using UPS almost
2 years ago (after using them for over 30 years)
because equipment that I was both shipping out and
receiving was arriving damaged.
A lot of the shipments did not show any damage to the
box. However, the box had been vibrated so badly that
all sorts of problems including shorts, loose
hardware, etc. was occuring.
At the request of a person who made arrangements for
the receiver to be picked up, I shipped out a Collins
R-388 several weeks ago by UPS (I didn't want to use
them!). It arrived in Florida shaken so badly that 2
of the 4 "long" screws that hold the feet in place had
vibrated completely loose. Also, the AVC switch had
been damaged by the vibration. As for damage to the
box, there was none!
I do not know just what is happening, but anything
that goes through the UPS Mesquite, Texas, (Dallas
"main" UPS hub) seems to be greatly vibrated. This
may be happening at other locations as well. This has
happened to boxes weighing less than 10 pounds as well
as the heavier boxes (like the R-388) that weigh in at
about 80 pounds (the receiver did have the optional
Collins cabinet installed thus weighed more than
usual).
Also, UPS has been damaging even items that were
shipped in wooden crates!
I changed over to FedEx ground and haven't had any
problems since. In fact, I have received a few units
that were very poorly packed by the shipper and
arrived without any damage at all.
