Very nice review, Ken!
Y'know what Lloyds "cure" is though, don't you?
Why it's a Bloomin' S-Meter Girdle. Looks real neat and deserves the
Good Radiokeeping Seal of Approval. I think I need a six-pack of 'em.
Hmmmm ... what's he diameter of a beer can?
On the other hand, Ken, your SX-28 is likely to attract the Swat Team
from the Board of Health.
It's a good idea to aaaahchooooo! koff koff haaaackkkk vacuum out
the rigs before working on them. Also you forgot to detail the crack in
the flange with a Sharpie pen. The metal tubes could use a dusting and a
Simoniz. Yup, I think your SX-28 is running about a pound or two heavy
there Ken. heh heh.
I can see it all now way in the future -- a couple of posts in April
2053. They'll go like this:
Pilgrim: "Hey guys, I just acquired an SX-28 and it's a bit dusty but it
still works. Those orange capacitors really held up and the metal tubes
too. But it's got this extra band around the S-meter. Was that some
kind of mil mod, maybe a mu metal shield to keep our stray magnetic
fields?"
Old-Timer: "No, no son, whatcha go there, I tell ya' whatcha got there
is the original, I say the original gen-you-wine Godsey Girdle. That's a
special sleeve to cure a condition what came to be known as bloomin'
S-meter syndrome. Yep, ol' Lloyd invented that baby back in ought-three.
No, not THAT ought-three, the other one! Now I gotta stop writin' and
send this post 'cause Windoze still keeps crashin' on me. They never
fixed that-a-one, nope. Whatever you do son, ya' betta not, I say ya'
betta not take off that sleeve whatever ya' do!"
Seriously, though -- a great product and a great presentation. Thanks!
Barry
