[Hallicrafters] Paint

Bill,

Every HT-37 I have ever owned, about four if my memory serves me
correctly as to number, was painted a gloss sort of battleship gray.
The insides weren't thoroughly covered with paint though. I've
never seen an HT-37 that was anything other than glossy.

Duanne,

Thanks for the reply but I can't believe the SX-111 has been
repainted.
It seems so original whereas the HT-37 seems so repainted. The best
way
I could describe the paint on the SX-111 not a crinkle finish,
not like the very old Hallicrafters black finish such as the SX-17
has (not as crinkly) but more of a slightly rough texture that is not
unpleasant to look at or touch. It is definitely not glossy at all
and is
a dark gray. It is flat paint for sure. I suspect it is original
because
the case is painted inside and out. Sort of like the Kenwood series
of
paint on the TS-520 and 820 line but darker.

I will look at some more information on this. Anything else you can
find
I would appreciate it. Again, I think the HT-37, glossy gray was
repainted
not the SX-111. It has a military look sort of????

I am suspicious of that paint on the SX-111 Bill. Mine was a smooth
finish.
Trying to do a so called ''crinkle' finish can be a real chore! I
will do
some
checking with reliable sources and let you know what the real deal
is.
Remember
this, the paint on all Hallicrafters is enamel!

Duane,

I have the matching SX-111 for the HT-37 and the paint on the SX-111
is a
rough finish. Not crinkle but sort of like it has very fine grit
mixed in
it. The HT-37 on the other hand, I am sure was repainted. It is
smooth and
glossy. Can an auto store match the gritty paint as on the SX-111?

Bill,

Avoid Mike Shelton of Total Electronics. He has the formulas, but can
not
make
any deliveries until June. I do not know what this guy's 'real'
problem is,
but
he fails to keep commitments as a matter of course. Most unfortunate.

If you can get a decent sample from inside the cabinet, some auto
parts
stores
have paint replication capabilities that are very impressive.

Anyone know type, price and availability of spray paint for the HT-37
cabinet?
