[Hallicrafters] Blooming meters

No joke,

Early brass casings for "S" meters etc were made from strips of brass, formed into a tube. As they
have ages they tend to frey at the edges and turn up like petals on a flower, you can put a "hose
clamp" around the "outside" and pull them in, but be carefull.

Strange but true.
