Some time ago I said I was going to come up with a fix for this.
Well.......I just completed 2 dozen fixes.
First, for those of you who want to tackle this, here are the details:
First there is the meter case, 2.5" inside diameter, about 2.56" OD.
Find a piece of brass tube to fit over that. Closest is 2.5" OD x .032
wall.. Means it has to be stretched to 2.56 ID. I finally found a
distributor that would sell me $120 (their minimum order) worth. Got 24 feet
of tube. That's 43 cents an inch.
Cut it into 6" lengths, chuck a length on a special mandrel made of 2.5"
aluminum round stock, turned down, (another $20 investment) and cut to 1
3/16" long pieces.
Deburr and anneal the pieces (1350 degrees, try that in your wife's oven,
ONCE).
Expand sleeve by passing in succession, 3 steel balls of graduated sizes
thru it with a hydraulic press. (Anybody with the balls to do this is
welcome to the job). Roll in metal roller to remove small deformities caused
by pressing operation. Drill 3 holes in perimeter, equally spaced. Bead
blast the sleeve, clean in a muriatic acid solution, and color black in a
tank of gun bluing.
NOW, having got that out of my system, Here is what you get:
1 brass sleeve
1 hose clamp to collapse the blooming meter with
3 each 2-56 countersunk head slotted screws
Instructions.
All this for $17.50, includes postage.
Next project is to get the meter faces silk screened. For those of you who
want both, speak now and I will hold sleeve and ship together. Price of face
is yet to be determined.
