Guys and gals,

This weekend I had the privlidge to be invited down to the Battleship
TEXAS to participate in a living history weekend that took place. Apart
from the general fun I had doing that, the best part of the day was the tour
we, the participants, got.

A closed area, hardhat and flashlight tour that took us through the bowels
of the mighty vessel. The part that concerns this list was the main
radioroom, deep belowdecks. Sitting on the desk was at least one Halli
radio, the one I found being the VHF model of the S-20, the S-36? Of
course, this was a replacement as quite a bit of the ship's commo gear was
stripped when she was decommissioned after WWII.

Another note is that she still has her original radar equipment, the reason
being for not having been stripped is that it is prototype equipment. TEXAS
was the first ship of the line to have this newfangled radarthing and by the
end of WWII, the Navy was using different, better, equipment and left it
aboard.

All in all, it was a great weekend, one that I shall not forget in many
years.
