I need some help from you veteran Hallicrafter owners in understanding my
S-40A schematic. I have a schematic wiring diagram for an S-40, S-40A and
S-40B receiver as reference. My S-40A uses a #80 rectifier tube instead of a
5Y3GT like the schematic says it should. In comparing all three schematics,
the S-40 appears to be the only one with a #80 rectifier but the rest of the
wiring and component values don't exactly match my S-40A. Was a #80 rectifier
used in early runs of S-40A's??? If so, is there a schematic available
anywhere for an S-40A that uses a #80 tube??? The whole issue is that I have
some wiring to trace and resistors to replace and am unsure of the correct
wiring schematic to use. Any help figuring this out would be greatly
appreciated. Bill N8BOS
