[Hallicrafters] Close Copy Of S-38 By Trio?

Wayne,

The Trio/Lafayette HE-10 IF is 455 kHz.  I have one, and it is a much
more stable radio than the S38.  The S meter is nice to have, too.

My manual came from HI Manuals, BTW; it is skimpy, but enough to align
one.

It's a fun radio, although the Hallicrafters styling on the S38 series
wins for inventiveness over the years.  The HE 10 is a bit more
"professional in appearance, if you can use that word for receivers in
this class; the IF transformers are heavy duty. One of my buddies had an
HE-10 in the early 60's, and I was jealous of it (I was using a Zenith
Trans Oceanic at the time).  Of course, an S38 would have been a huge
step up from the Zenith, but I could not afford anything that deluxe
until I started making the big bucks mowing lawns.

Lafayette sold quite a few HE-10's, and you can find them if you look
around.
