Hi I did this years ago the field coil is used in the power supply as a
filter choke  it has to stay  I removed the speaker frame from the field
coil and mounted new speaker hook audio wires from old speaker to new one
and secure field coil to keep it from moveing and it will work with out
getting into the power supply

I  have a schematic in my hands for the S-20R. I can change tubes,
caps,resistors as I am sure all of you can but when it comes to substituting
a field coil speaker with a PM speaker is a next level  to get correct size
& wireing correct or making a connection to correct point to avc bus is more
of a learning  curve. I am not an engineer or have background in radios (
just mechanical-electrical as in racecars, Air Force & American Airlines.)
Tube radios is different ball game. I choose these Hallicrafter radios to
restore as they are the best looking radios, but that is just my opinion.I
have enough responses as where I probably can figure things out.(rbethman)-
I ask if looking on schematic ,if I made the correct connection to avc bus-
it was in body of subject.Kim
