[Hallicrafters] SX-42 Power Transformer

Hi Chuck & list:
All of the square "H" tops I've seen are add-on trim, not really part of
the transformer.
I'm not sure, but I think these were standard on the SX-42's and early
SX- 62's (and some other models). They seemed to disappear on the later
SX-62A's (and B's?). I have an SX-42 that doesn't have the cap. It's
possible the transformer was replaced on some and whoever replaced them
didn't bother to reinstall the top or it no longer fit.
If I'm not mistaken, I've seen photos of Halli's with a switch mounted on
those covers. (dual voltage?)
I doubt they would have much effect on running temperature of the
transformers. Might even act like a heat sink and dissipate some.
However, I'd guess they were purely for show like the flashy decals on
auto air cleaners with "Super-Dooper V8" -- looks good when you pop the
hood.
